Outreach Committee

Overview

The PALSD Outreach Committee was created to connect PALSD and its members with the local AANHPI community on various areas of interest, including community service, education, local events, the arts, and business. The committee's long-term objective is for PALSD to build relationships with community stakeholders and to be a resource for the broader San Diego AANHPI community.

If you are a member of the AANHPI community and would like PALSD to be involved in a project or effort, please reach out to Outreach Committee co-chairs, Frank Ahn (ahnfrank@gmail.com) or Joseph Cheng (josephcheng@sandiego.edu). The growing list of organizations, programs, and opportunities that the Outreach Committee collaborates with includes:

- The Legal Aid Society of San Diego (LASSD) - PALSD has a long-standing Memorandum of Understanding with LASSD, which has a number of volunteer opportunities, including Walk-In Legal Clinics. Under the MOU, PALSD volunteers can contribute pro bono hours to LASSD, which generates funding for PALSD's projects such as MCLEs, networking events, and law student bar stipends, in exchange for those donated hours.  So whether you are an attorney at a firm with a pro bono hour requirement, looking for a way to give back, in-between jobs, searching for a job, or just looking for a way to try out a different area of law, you can contribute to LASSD's services, fund some of PALSD's activities, and help LASSD service more clients all at the same time! If you are interested in helping out, please contact info@palsd.org or look at https://www.lassd.org/volunteer/.

- San Diego Asian Pacific Islander (SD API) Coalition - PALSD is a member of the SD API Coalition. The mission of the SD API Coalition is to facilitate conversations with API communities and advocate for representation of voices by: Amplifying and cultivating leadership; acting as a hub for organizations to collaborate; and building a more inclusive and equitable San Diego. The SD API coalition meets the first Monday of every month at 5:30 p.m. More information can be found at https://www.sdapicoalition.org.

- Crawford Law Academy - PALSD assists the Crawford Law Academy by advertising volunteer opportunities to the legal community and, for decades, has had members volunteer as mock trial coaches, mock interviewers, and mentors for high school students interested in the practice of law at Will C. Crawford Senior High School.  If you are interested in helping out with any of these programs, please contact info@palsd.org and PALSD will connect you with the program coordinators.
